Finding the dream wedding gown is a wild goose chase that often ends up in picking up something that hardly defines the bride. When Megan Ziems, Founder of Grace Loves Lace, was in search of a wedding dress back in 2010, she was disillusioned with the structured, traditional wedding ‘uniform’ that dominated the market. She noticed how stale the bridal offering was. Ziems says in an interview with the Collective Hub, “I was totally uninspired when searching for the dress. There was so much pressure; this was my day, yet no dresses resonated with me.” And so began the story of Grace Loves Lace.
With a background in the fashion industry, Ziems was completely inspired to fill that gap for sophisticated, effortlessly beautiful dresses that were luxurious and affordable. Megan’s great grandmother was an enthusiast of French Ribbon and charmed by its magnificence and delicacy. She passed on her energy for structure and trim to Megan’s mom, Sally. Sally grew up in between Wales and France exploring the famous lace-making regions and went on to design luxurious lingerie. From a young age, Megan was inspired by her mother’s successful career that was rooted in high-quality production and ethical manufacturing.
Grace Loves Lace is an online shopping website for wedding dresses. It sells its gowns and accessories exclusively through their online boutique and has 8 showrooms around the world: Los Angeles, San Diego, New York and Dallas (USA), London (UK) and the Gold Coast, Melbourne, and Perth Australia. The most romantic and beautiful gowns are handmade in their Australian studio and are delivered worldwide. Every gown is handmade, packed and shipped from the head office to ensure to deliver the promised product. Designing, producing, and dispatching entirely in-house allows the company to remain affordable, high quality, ethical and true to their brand values.
GLL believes that there is nothing more beautiful than a bride who is comfortable and effortless. Its unique, non-traditional approach to garment construction pioneered a new style of wedding dress and paved the way for the modern bride. The company specializes in providing versatile, comfortable, stretch fits dresses. Their handmade in-breathable, luxurious Frenchlaces and silks allow the bride to be herself on her day. Quality and ethical manufacturing is the core of the company.
To make it more convenient for the bride, GLL offers two categories: Made-to-Order and Ready-to-Wear. In Made-to-Order, the unique gown is handmade especially for the bride’s size range and height. But in Ready-to-Wear, readymade gowns are available for urgent deliveries that have been handmade to a standard size and height. They are designed in their Australian studio and are dispatched from their head office within 3 days of an order being placed.
Presently, along with the wedding dresses, the company is also selling bridesmaid dresses, veils, hair bows, shoes & accessories, jewelry, capes & cover-ups and engagement & wedding rings designed especially keeping the woman and her comfort in mind.
GLL has an incredibly passionate and dedicated development team that are highly involved in their Australian headquarters and international showrooms. Ziems says with Medium, “We’ve got over 40 in our team along with the production team. I have got a great management team and collectively we have a strong team dynamic that communicates on phone, email, Skype, every day.” She further adds, “We’re a close team that considers ourselves an extended family. We love social events and celebrating the highs collectively.”
Its unique, non-traditional approach to garment construction pioneered a new style of wedding dress and paved the way for the modern bride. Meanwhile, it also maintains a reputation on social media and has been labeled ‘The World’s Most Pinned Wedding Gown’ by Vogue. The company has been established as the leader in the modern bridal industry and continues to manufacture all gowns by hand. It has been featured in the top and reputed magazines, websites, blogs, etc, such as Martha Stewart Weddings, The Knot, Harpers Bazaar, Vogue and Elle naming them the most popular wedding brand. Pinterest is one of the popular wedding planning tools and it has really helped the company to increase its following. In addition to that, GLL is also proud to be recognized for the hard work and being the winner of Queensland Export Awards in 2016 which has definitely opened some amazing doors for them.
When asked about GLL’s greatest accomplishment to date, Megan Ziems stated in an interview with Nouba “We grew by 300% every single year since our launch, so I’m hugely proud of being able to handle the growth and still maintain such a high-quality product and exceptional service. Our International growth and the market share we have captured is a big accomplishment, especially for a privately owned start-up.”
